Homeschool Support Group Meeting - Monday, August 4, 2008

Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 Water Street, Edwardsville, Illinois, starting at 7:00 pm (look for us in the basement).  Doors will open at 6:30.  Kids are welcome, but no formal childcare is provided.  Bring games for your kids and a snack to share.

August 4 Topic:  Notebooking, by Guest Speaker Jean Mudry

This workshop will demonstrate how to incorporate notebooking with the curriculum you are currently using. It’s not about changing your curriculum, it’s about taking what you are already doing and exchanging the workbook and worksheets for a notebook page. You take a topic of study and combine it with a student’s own writing and artistic work to create a “memory page” about what they have learned. It is similar to scrapbooking, but it is geared to your children and their studies. As a topic of study develops, the children actually create their own “text book” of information. Not only is notebooking an excellent way to review what your children are learning, it also provides an outstanding portfolio of their hard work and will be treasured for years to come.

About Jean Mudry:  Jean was a speaker at the 2007 Greater St. Louis Homeschool Expo.  She and her husband Mike have been married for 17 years, and they have 2 children, Mikala, 13 and Aaron, 10. The Mudry's have been homeschooling for 4 years and notebooking for three years. Jean is a former public school teacher who swore she would NEVER homeschool, but God had other plans for her.  Being a former teacher, Jean thought she knew exactly how to teach her children, but God has totally changed her philosophy of education and she is still learning how to homeschool HIS way! Jean says that that notebooking has been one of the best things they have implemented in their school
